Jeff Graville is a Toronto-based composer with a broad musical background. Growing up in a house filled with music, he quickly took to the drums. At the same time, he studied classical piano and became proficient at double bass and trombone.
Pursuing his passion for Jazz, he studied the art form at York University and began to perform and tour as a drummer.
"My experience playing Jazz has definitely influenced my writing process. I find myself improvising for long periods of time. It's a great way to allow ideas and forms to evolve naturally."
An interest in arranging led Jeff to graduate studies in composition and orchestration and soon he was composing for short films and production music libraries.
"I've always had a strong sense of imagery whenever I listened to music, so composing to picture was something I really wanted to do. "
Though his musical interests are eclectic, Jeff finds a common thread in his writing through simplicity.
"The idea of getting the most out of very little is important to me. My favourite musical moments are the most minimal. Maybe a simple chord change after a lot of repetition, or the perfect four note phrase. I hope it's apparent in the way I approach everything from harmony to orchestration."
Jeff currently composes for films and production music libraries, specializing in music that's evocative and uses just the right musical ingredients.
